{girl friends}
Our dear friends are leaving Cincinnati. Oh how we are going to miss them! And Lexi and Kenzie are definitely going to miss their friends Moose and Maddie. Whenever we are close to their house Lexi asks to go see Moose :) And she is such a little "mommy" to Maddie ... bringing her toys, reading her books, etc.
I took a vacation day yesterday because Sara had the day off and it was great to get together to have a girls lunch with Audra and Maddie. It is going to be sad when they no longer live just around the corner, but at least they will be close enough that weekend trips will still be in order. I look forward to watching the friendship between our girls blossom over the years!
oh happy bathroom!
We gave the girls'/guest bathroom a mini makeover this past weekend. It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint, a new shade and some fun accessories can do to renew a space. The girls had fun helping daddy paint. And I am happy with the result. It is a very happy place. A room that is playful but not too childish so that it still doubles well as a guest bathroom.
I used my new sewing machine to make the roman shade for the bathroom. I couldn't find a fabric that I liked, so I used plain white fabric and dressed it up with some yellow grosgrain ribbon. I am loving the result (and quite a bargain)!
The girls are loving their new space as well! The especially like the new clear pebble bath mat because it looks like "ice." :) Love my bathing beauties!

{happy love day!}
Happy Valentine's Day! I wish that I could have spent the whole day with my little valentines instead of being at the office. But it was pretty special to come home to home made cards and cookies and two smiling and dancing little girls! It was a love filled evening!
The girls had a fun day with Sara filled with lots of special treats!
And were especially smitten when Daddy came home from the office with roses for them! I love my 3 valentines! xoxo
{snow day}
We had our first 'legitimate' snowfall last Friday night and woke up to snow covered grass and freezing temperatures on Saturday morning. The girls were so excited when they looked out onto the balcony off of our bedroom and spotted the "snow" and couldn't wait to go play outside! Since we have had such a mild winter I hadn't purchased new snow suits for the girls this season, but given that it felt like 6 degrees with the windchill the girls needed to be bundled up. So I dug out their snowsuits from last year to see if they happened to still fit and they fit like a glove ... minus the capri length legs :) And combined with their new snow boots we were set for cold temperatures and fun!
The girls had so much more fun than they did last year in the snow (not a high bar since last year Kenzie screamed the entire time she was out in the snow). There really wasn't enough of it to build a snowman or to go sledding, but they had a great time just stomping around and throwing snowballs.
We weren't outside for long, because it was FREEZING!
So we came inside and the girls helped their Daddy prepare a big (crock)pot full of white chicken chili! A great meal for a cold day. I love watching Randall and the girls cook together ... such a sweet sight!

{happy 2nd birthday to my little blog}
Wow, I can't believe that it has been 2 years since I started this little blog of mine ... mainly because that means that my girls are almost 2. How can that be possible? These 2 years have flown by and I am so happy that I have documented the highs (and lows) and the "everyday" via this blog.
I started this blog because so many of our family and friends are spread out all over the country and world and I thought this would be a good way to keep everyone up to date on the girls. It has served that purpose, but it has also been so much more for me. I love being able to go back and remember moments that I may have otherwise forgotten. I myself have referenced it frequently when Inken or other new moms have asked me for advice so that I could recall exactly what the girls were up to at that particular age. I am hoping that one day the girls will enjoy reading stories of their early lives. It has also been therapeutic for me at times. I have always wanted to keep a journal, but have not been very good at doing so consistently, so the fact that I have been doing this for 2 full years is quite an accomplishment :)
Randall and I often joke that the only people that read my blog are the girls 2 grandmothers. If that is the case, that is fine with me. I am not writing this blog for others, I am writing it for our girls and our little "Party of Five." But I am always surprised when I hear that there are actually quite a number of people that follow my blog. I love it when someone tells that when they are having a bad day they take a break and check my blog to see if there is a new post that may brighten their day. I love it when I hear that people feel that they are able to stay close to our girls via the blog.
So Happy 2nd Birthday blog of mine! To celebrate I am sharing some pictures that I took of the Kenzie & Lexi for their 2nd birthday party invitation ... cowgirl style! Enjoy! And if you are someone that reads this blog, that I may not even know is doing so leave a comment. If I get no comments that is fine (I'm used to it :)), but maybe I'll get a little surprise :) Thanks for reading!

super sunday
Tobi had surgery on Friday and had to spend 48 hours post surgery at the animal hospital. His sisters missed him terribly while he was gone. I had tried to explain to them on Thursday evening that they needed to give Tobi hugs because he would be gone for the weekend. They did, but didn’t really get it because as soon as Daddy came home on Friday without Tobi they started asking for him. We kept pretty busy … met the Stealeys for (a long) dinner on Friday evening, spent Saturday morning at the Sports Club for toddler/parent playdate and swimming, went to Nordstrom for some shopping and dinner on Saturday afternoon/evening … but whenever we were home they were looking for Tobi. On Saturday evening on our way home from the mall we drove by the animal hospital where Tobi was staying and pointed out to the girls that that is where Tobi was and we all said a prayer that he would be feeling better soon and wouldn’t be scared that night. But when we kept driving, instead of stopping to pick up Tobi, Lexi started crying hysterically for her Tobi boy. So sad. We reassured her that he would get to come home the next day.
We woke up to beautiful sunshine on Sunday (a stark contrast to the dreary rain we had on Saturday) and decided to walk to the Echo on Hyde Park Square for brunch. By the time we were on our way back home we got a call that it was time to pick up Tobi.
Randall went to get him while the girls and I colored welcome home/get well signs. When Randall arrived home with their brother they went running to the car … although they were a little taken aback (esp. Lexi) by how slowly he was moving and the big scar with staples down his neck/chest. The girls fixed him a bed on the floor and showered Tobi with lots of hugs and kisses .. and treats and toys. What a great reunion it was!
Later that afternoon the girls wanted to go play outside in the yard. Tobi was supposed to be resting quietly inside (doctor’s orders for the next 4 weeks) but instead wanted to be wherever his sisters were. So we ended up bringing his dog bed outside onto the front stoop while the girls played in the front yard and then onto the back porch as they played on their slide. It seems that he too had missed his sisters and didn’t want to let them out of his sight.
Given that Tobi needed to be supervised, we decided to have a quiet Super Bowl “party” at our house, just the 5 of us. The girls got to eat Dewey’s pizza at their little table in front of the TV, which they thought was pretty cool. Tobi was just happy to be back at home on his couch … being fed pizza by his sisters didn’t hurt either. Randall was happy with the outcome of the game (and won some $300+). I was just happy that all 3 of my babies were home, happy and healthy*. It was a SUPER Super Bowl Sunday!
*Post edit … I should say “relatively” healthy as our February seems to be a continuation of January thus far in the health department. This weekend the girls were healthy, but I was feeling like crap (now on antibiotics for a sinus infection). All I wanted to do on Monday night was to go to bed right after the girls went to bed … unfortunately Lexi started throwing up right as I was putting her into her crib. This continued for the next 4 hours…. Not sure what it was, but thankfully she seems to be doing better today. I just want us all to be healthy again!

{weekend recap}
While not particularly eventful, last weekend was an exhausting weekend. These girls can wear me out and some Monday’s a day at the office feels like a day off … but they also crack me up, bring more joy to my life than I could ever even have imagined and are the best things that ever happened to me!
Saturday was fun. In the morning we ran errands together and then Lexi had her second haircut. Randall and Kenzie dropped Lexi and I off and went home to put away the groceries. I wasn’t sure how Lexi would do given that she was not at all excited by her first hair cut. She was a total pro!
It could not have been more polar opposite from her first haircut. This time she happily played with the toys while she waited and then when it was her turn she confidently marched over and chose to sit on the elephant seat. She sat still and did exactly as she was told throughout the whole haircut. She was quite serious … and also a bit proud. My big little girl!
The girls have been very into “swimming” recently. Whenever they spot their bathing suits they insist on putting them on and we have been “swimming” in our big bathtub a couple of times lately.
On Saturday afternoon we decided to take them to the indoor pool at our gym for family swim time. They had a blast! As soon as we hit the water they were giggling. They have no fear. They will jump into the pool, don’t mind going underwater (esp. Kenzie), and were little fish in the pool. It was amazing to me, especially in contrast to some of the other kids at the pool who were older and very fearful of getting into the water, let alone getting splashed with water or getting water in their face. I’m not sure where they got their love for water, since we really don’t take them swimming that often, but I think it is great. I am so happy that they have this confidence and that they have so much fun in the water. As we left the pool we said, “we need to start doing this every Saturday … what a great family activity that lets us all be active during the cold winter months.”
Then the next morning Lexi woke up screaming. She had an explosive diaper situation … beyond anything we have ever experienced with her. After getting her bathed and dressed we decided the best thing would be to snuggle in mommy & daddy’s bed. She was perfectly content laying next to her sissy, reading books … until she started screaming and writhing in pain. She lifted up her pajama top and pointed to her belly saying “hurts, hurts.” Poor baby … she must have picked up something at the pool, and dealt with terrible stomach cramps/diarreah all day. I hate not being able to take away her pain. Needless to say it was a very lazy (but not very relaxing) day (which was good because both girls also woke up with runny noses) … seems like we have had a lot of those in January. We read lots of books, got manis & pedis, "cooked" oatmeal for our baby dolls, and did lots of snuggling. Let’s hope we are healthier in February.
While we were home “sick” on Sunday, Kenzie kept us entertained with her silly antics. We’re not sure where it came from, but she has suddenly developed a thick Southern drawl (think Southern version of Brittany Spears fake British accent), most spectacularly showcased by her pronunciation of “Toooe-bay” (Tobi) and “bay-bay” (baby)…. Watch for yourself...
It is amazing how much Kenzie’s vocabulary has blossomed over the last month. She is saying almost as many words as Lexi is now. Lexi’s new favorite work of the moment is “mine!” She uses it often. As in “no, mine do it” if you try to help her put on her clothes when she is determined to do so on her own. “No, mine mommy!” when her sister tries to join us when we are reading a book together. “Mine toys!” ... “Mine, mine, mine!”
Oh the joys (& trials) of two almost 2 year olds :) It was a weekend of highs and lows. An exhausting weekend, but one that was filled with lots of little moments that make all of the hard work worthwhile.
