My Sister the Aunt

One of the things that I have most enjoyed since becoming a mother is watching my sister with my daughters. Inken was so excited when she found out I was pregnant and that she would become an aunt. She was overjoyed when I told her I was expecting twins and shared in my excitement when I found out that I was having two girls - understanding the wonderful sister bond that they will share. Inken tracked the twins' progress in my belly - as they progressed from the size of a grape to a lemon to an apple to a melon - and was curious to know what it felt like when they kicked inside of me. When Kenzie and Lexi were born she hopped on a plane to Cincinnati to come meet her nieces when they were only 2 days old and then she came back to stay with us for 4 weeks - weeks 10 to 14 of the girls' lives.

I loved having my sister here with us. I loved watching her love my girls. Aunt Inken sang to them, read them books, snuggled them, consoled them, made them smile, played silly games with them - such as nicknaming their activity mat characters Mr. Gerry Curl and his cousin Flopsy. She even survived their witching hours and poopy diaper changes. And she did it all with such love and care. It was so special for me to watch her develop this deep bond with her nieces. And on top of it all she spoiled Randall and me with her gourmet culinary skills while she was here - what a treat!

I love you Inky Pink! Thank you for being such a wonderful sister and aunt! Thank you for all of your help while you were here. You are going to make an amazing mother one day.

Happy First Father's Day!

Happy First Father's Day to an amazing dad! Maybe it is because you have had a lot of practice with Tobi, but fatherhood has really come naturally to you. Thank you for making us smile every day. Thank you for making up silly songs for us, for rocking us to sleep, for taking us on fun daddy-daughter outings, for 'bragging' about us to every new person you meet, for thinking about us all the time - even on your 'guys weekend' when you bought us the cute pink ballerina outfits we are wearing above, for spoiling us and for making sure that we are safe and secure. Thank you for loving us like only you can! We love you to the sky & back!

To Great Grandmothers (Uhr Omi's) house we go ...

Omi June with her first 2 granddaughters and first 2 great-granddaughters

While we were in Virginia we also got to visit Omi June. She was so excited to meet her first great-grandchildren! The girls were quite popular at Brandon Oaks and even got to make a 'guest' appearance at the Residence Council meeting. We feel so blessed that Kenzie and Lexi have two such loving great-grandmothers and that they have already had a chance to meet both of them. Lucky girls! We love you Omi June!

Happy Birthday Omi K!

We love you and wish you a fabulous day!

When we turned 3 months old we went to College

The first weekend in June was Reunions Weekend at the University of Virginia - my 10 year reunion, and Aunt Inken's 5 year reunion. So on the girls' 3 month birthday we packed up the car and made the 8 hour trek back to Charlottesville. It was a wonderful weekend filled with great friends, yummy food (Take it Away and Arch's twice and Belair Market), hanging out on the Lawn, reliving old memories and creating new ones. We are so fortunate that Lindsay and Kurt so generously opened their home to us - it allowed us to spend quality time with my closest friends. I love you girls and am so glad that Kenzie & Lexi got to meet all of you and gorgeous little Jane. I am sure this was the first of many trips that the girls will take to beautiful Charlottesville. Who knows, maybe one day they'll even be the third generation of girls in our family to attend UVA.

Memorial Day at the Pool

We spent Memorial Day at the swimming pool with the girls. It was their first trip to the pool and a great way to kick off our summer. When we first arrived they both had a meltdown and I thought it might be a very short lived experience. However, once Aunt Inken and I got them settled down they both enjoyed a nap in the shade and then a swim in the baby pool. Kenzie & Lexi were the cutest little girls at the pool!

Here's to many more afternoons at the pool and bare feet in the grass this summer!

Cousins

I am so glad that Kenzie & Lexi got to meet their cousins, Ethan & Brittany. It made me so happy to see the four of them together. I only wish that they lived closer so that we could see them interact more often. I am sure that the girls will look up to their older cousins as they grow up. Ethan & Brittany are both such great kids and will be great role models for the girls!
