One of the things that I have most enjoyed since becoming a mother is watching my sister with my daughters. Inken was so excited when she found out I was pregnant and that she would become an aunt. She was overjoyed when I told her I was expecting twins and shared in my excitement when I found out that I was having two girls - understanding the wonderful sister bond that they will share. Inken tracked the twins' progress in my belly - as they progressed from the size of a grape to a lemon to an apple to a melon - and was curious to know what it felt like when they kicked inside of me. When Kenzie and Lexi were born she hopped on a plane to Cincinnati to come meet her nieces when they were only 2 days old and then she came back to stay with us for 4 weeks - weeks 10 to 14 of the girls' lives.
I loved having my sister here with us. I loved watching her love my girls. Aunt Inken sang to them, read them books, snuggled them, consoled them, made them smile, played silly games with them - such as nicknaming their activity mat characters Mr. Gerry Curl and his cousin Flopsy. She even survived their witching hours and poopy diaper changes. And she did it all with such love and care. It was so special for me to watch her develop this deep bond with her nieces. And on top of it all she spoiled Randall and me with her gourmet culinary skills while she was here - what a treat!
I love you Inky Pink! Thank you for being such a wonderful sister and aunt! Thank you for all of your help while you were here. You are going to make an amazing mother one day.
