{a fun weekend with Omi K!}

My mom came to visit last weekend and we had nonstop fun.  We surprised Omi K by all picking her up from the airport on Thursday evening.  The girls decorated signs and were so excited to greet Omi at the airport - and Omi was so excited by her welcoming committee that she cried :)

Omi spent Friday with Sara and the girls.  They went to story time, had lunch out and played in Hyde Park Square.  Even though it had been 3 months since the girls had seen their Omi they did not skip a beat.  They wanted Omi to sit next to them at breakfast, Omi to help them get dressed, to sit on Omi's lap .. it was so sweet.  They love their Omi K.  On Friday evening we went to Ault Park and then took Omi to try Eli's BBQ.  It was a great evening to eat outside and the girls were excited to play with friends that we met up with there.

On Saturday morning the girls were excited to go to Molly's 3rd birthday party.  Molly is a friend from their gymnastics class who also goes to the same preschool, but is in the 3 year old class.  Our nannies know one another but we had never met Molly's parents.  The girls had a great time - after an initial short period of shyness - and I enjoyed getting to know Molly's family and friends.

After the birthday party we returned home in hopes of taking a nap before heading to the Reds game in the afternoon.  However, the girls were soooo excited to finally be going to the baseball game with Omi, that they just could not fall asleep.  We got ready for the game and hopped in the car to head downtown to the stadium ... of course this is when the girls decided to fall asleep during our 10 minute drive :)

The girls had a blast at the game!  At first I think they were just in awe and weren't quite sure what to think of all of the people and loud noises, but then they got into it.  Lexi especially enjoyed clapping along to the music and cheering "Go Reds!"  Kenzie enjoyed peeling peanuts and loved that we were sitting up high enough so that we could see the boats in the river.  I am not sure if either of them actually watched any of the game, but they seemed to enjoy themselves and we made it through 6 innings before getting up to take a break.

We had a good ballpark dinner and the girls had a blast playing on the playground.  They were a bit intimidated by all of the big kids at first, but soon they were having such a great time that they did not want to leave.  We stayed through the entire game and watched the Reds win to clinch a spot in the playoffs!

Following the game, we decided to continue the celebration by stopping by Bluegrass for Babies - a fundraiser concert for Children's Hospital.  We attended the event last year and had such a great time that we didn't want to miss it this year - even if it meant only stopping by for a short while.  The girls were excited to run into Molly and her family at the event and the girls immediately started dancing together.  Party animals despite no nap.  It was cold and dark and past our bedtimes, but we had fun and stayed warm by jamming to some bluegrass :)

On Sunday morning we took our typical trip to the Hyde Park Farmers market and it did not disappoint.  Then following their nap, the girls put on their dirndls (traditional German dresses) that they got from their Opa so that we could head downtown for Oktoberfest.

The girls were quite a hit in their outfits and they had a great time.  They loved going on the rides, sampling German potato pancakes and sausages, and dancing to the German polka band.  It was the perfect way to spend our last evening with Omi K in town.

We returned home exhausted from our nonstop weekend of fun (but not too exhausted to do some work at the computer in the nude).  The girls insisted that Omi K lay with them during their bedtime routine.  They love their Omi and had such a great time with her while she was in town.  I love these visits, but they also make me wish that we lived closer and could do this more often.  I'll savor the wonderful memories ... until next time...
